Pelvic Organ Prolapse & Urinary Incontinence

Pelvic organ prolapse is bulging out of one or more of pelvic organs such as uterus, vagina, bowel or bladder into the vagina. There are several risk factors such as age, childbirth, poor muscle tone, job involving lifting heavy objects etc. The common symptoms are feeling of something coming down, heaviness in the vagina, painful sexual intercourse etc. This could be associated with urinary incontinence. The treatment for prolapse depends on the extent of prolapse and associated symptoms. It can be managed mainly by surgery although some of the urinary problems need medical treatment.
